Learn about Anaplan, understand what connected planning is, and explore the Anaplan platform.


Course Topics

  • Understand what Connected Planning is and how it changes how we think about Financial Planning 
  • Identify the key components of the Anaplan platform
  • Learn Anaplan navigation and terminology
  • Explore an Anaplan model as an end user and develop introductory model building skills


Getting Started with Anaplan

Required Course:

Anaplan Essentials for Customers 

This course will take 8-10 hours to complete.


In this online course you will be introduced to Anaplan as a company, what Connected Planning is and the basics of the Anaplan platform.  At the end of the course you will complete a hands-on modeling module that introduces you to the platform as an end user would use it then gives you the opportunity to do some model building within a pre-defined model.


Course Objectives: By the end of this class, you should be able to:

  • Explain what Connected Planning is
  • Identify the basic building blocks of Anaplan and basic model building features
  • Describe Hyperblock
  • Manually import data into a list 
  • Create/modify basic formulas 
  • Create a dashboard

Please note that while lesson content is viewable on mobile devices, your best learning experience will be on a laptop or desktop computer.


After completing the course lessons, you will have a fundamental understanding of Anaplan and be prepared for additional model building coursework.

Level 1 Model Building

The course will take about 25-35 hours to complete.


Summary:  The Level 1 Model Building course provides you with best practices of model building and the hands-on model building activities that will coach you through building an Anaplan model. This is a hands-on course; where you will build a Finance model for Unicorn Candy Company.    This course is supported by over 50 micro-lessons (5-10 minutes in length) on an assortment of topics to help you build your first model.


Course Objectives: By the end of this class, you’ll be able to:

  • Identify the elements of DISCO (Data, Input, System, Calculation, and Output) in a model schema
  • Build a model in Anaplan that includes modules, lists, line items and hierarchies
  • Import data into a model
  • Construct formulas and functions to calculate data and reference modules
  • Build end user dashboards that include grids, charts, and lists
  • Assign role-based model access permissions


Level 2 Model Building 

Audience: Model Builders that have successfully completed the Level 1 Model Building course.

The course will take about 25-30 hours to complete.


Summary:The Level 2 Model Building course includes over 40 micro-lessons (5-10 minutes in length) on a variety of just-in-time topics and concepts to provide additional information on model building best practices and Anaplan functionality. 


Course Objectives: By the end of this class, you’ll be able to:

  • Explain the elements of an agile implementation methodology
  • Build a Data Hub model
  • Import data from one model to another
  • Set up import/export processes
  • Design security solutions for end user access
  • Build dynamic charts
  • Describe recommended best practices for using saved views, exports, and filters
  • Explain Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) functionality
  • Describe and use Line Item Subsets
  • Identify when to use numbered lists
  • Explain Version capabilities
