The Anaplan University Connect program hosted a group of top undergraduate students from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) Orfalea College of Business at the Anaplan headquarters in San Francisco for an incredibly interactive exploration of Anaplan and Connected Planning, including career opportunities and a Q&A session, featuring Chief Planning Officer, Simon Tucker.
Concepts that are core to an education at Cal Poly include learning by doing and putting theory into practice. Students brought their A-game to the session by demonstrating their knowledge of Anaplan and planning through creative questions and active participation in insightful discussions during their visit—despite a 3:30 a.m. campus departure earlier that day!
The session objectives aligned with Cal Poly’s learning approach and the goals of University Connect:
Build awareness of Anaplan as THE company driving the Connected Planning topic.
Introduce the Anaplan platform.
Inspire students to consider Anaplan as their employer of choice upon graduation.
Deepen our relationship with the university.
The Anaplan team also brought their A-game, showing the #AnaplanLOVE by demonstrating our culture and values, and together, created moments that mattered for the Cal Poly students.
I personally had the opportunity to whiteboard the Connected Planning / Anaplan story for the students. Cal Poly alum and Business Operations Manager, Byron Mikowicz, introduced the Anaplan platform, demonstrated a use case, and shared the Anaplan-on-Anaplan success story. Pete Lawson, Global Talent Leader, encouraged students to consider careers at Anaplan. Then, Cal Poly alum and Enterprise Account Executive, Nico Molino; Customer Experience Associate, Connie Ng; and Senior Business Partner, Trevor Shubert, joined Pete for the career panel and shared their perspective on everything from how to prepare for a career while still in school, to what it takes to be successful at Anaplan. The Q&A session led by Chief Planning Officer, Simon Tucker, was also a huge success.
The feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive, including comments such as, “Best company tour we’ve been on,” “Anaplan made us feel so welcome,” and “[The] agenda was top notch!” Another attendee commented that it was an awesome afternoon—and we agree!
Will Anaplan host my university too?
University Connect is pleased to host our member and prospective member students at our headquarters or other offices, as well as visit your campus for a similar Anaplan day. Anaplan is committed to supporting universities that wish to provide students with knowledge of Connected Planning, a hands-on experience with the market-leading Anaplan platform.

Can my company connect with University Connect members like Cal Poly?
The flip side of University Connect is Business Connect. Business Connect acts as a matchmaker between company and university. It gives companies the opportunity to bring projects and challenges to the classroom, allows them to develop deeper relationships with member universities and their students, and explore early talent recruiting.
Please contact me at Heather.Matthews@Anaplan.com to explore the possibilities.

Welcome to the hackathon!
This one-day, pre-Connected Planning Xperience (CPX) hackathon provides participants with the opportunity to explore the platform, learn something new, receive guidance from Anaplan product experts, and network with like-minded colleagues—all while competing for prizes and bragging rights. Spend the day working in teams to develop your model and pitch your solution to a panel of judges before heading over to the CPX welcome reception. Then, take your learnings home to incorporate into your own company models.
Tell me more about the challenge
The official challenge will be announced at the start of the hackathon. Similar to previous events, teams will be given three Anaplan features to incorporate into the model of their choosing. A guideline/best practice may be showcased for bonus points if addressed in the model. Beyond this, the sky is the limit! Be innovative. Be creative. Have fun with it!
What’s new this year?
For the first time, Anaplan has invited its University Connect partners to join the hackathon. A small group of students (and maybe a handful of professors) will be joining the event. Students and professors have an amazing opportunity to learn more about Anaplan, further develop their modeling skills, and connect with the Anaplan ecosystem. On the flip side, this new audience will bring a new perspective to the model build and offer the chance to engage with Anaplan-skilled, early talents who are motivated to work in the ecosystem upon graduation.
Day: Monday, June 10, 2019 Time: 9:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. PT Where: Anaplan Headquarters (50 Hawthorne Street, San Francisco, CA, 94107) Cost: Free! Pre-registration is required. (If you are unable to attend after registration, please let us know so others may join; The event will be at capacity.)

Q: I am registering for CPX soon. How do I sign up for the hackathon at the same time? A: Mid-registration, you will see a question about attending training. Choose “no,” then the “Attend hackathon?” question is displayed. Choose “yes” to register, answer remaining questions, and you’re set!
Q: I’ve already signed up, but I want in. How can I change my registration? A: Send an email to CPX@AnaplanEvents.com with your registration details, and you’ll be added to the event list and will receive an updated confirmation by email.
Q: I’m a university student and want to put my Anaplan modeling skills to use, but I can’t get away from my internship to attend CPX. Can I attend only the hackathon? A: Students may attend only the pre-conference hackathon; registrations are handled on a one-off basis. Send an email to the University Connect team with your contact details.
Q: Can I attend training AND the hackathon? What if I need to attend a meeting on Monday? A: No, you cannot attend the hackathon and training. Both are full-day events and run in parallel. Any meetings scheduled for Monday will conflict with the hackathon schedule as well.
Q: Doesn’t the CPX Welcome Reception happen on Monday? Will the hackathon be finished so I can attend the reception? A: Yes! The hackathon will end around 4:30 p.m.; the welcome reception is 5-7 p.m.
Q: Is the hackathon really free this year? A: Yes! This is a change from past years. There is $0 cost to attend!
Q: Where is the event held? A: The hackathon is held at Anaplan headquarters (50 Hawthorne Street, San Francisco, CA, 94107); the registration confirmation email will have more details.

@AmyX , I'd like to give you another suggestion regarding talent. As @andrea.barrera noted, there isn't a job fair but I would encourage you to stop by the University & Business Connect booth. If your company has Anaplan skilled early-talent hiring needs we may be able to connect you to universities we partner with via University Connect. University Connect provides educational institutions with free access to the Anaplan platform, training, learning resources, student/faculty events, and support to help professors bring Anaplan into the classroom. These universities can be great sources of strong early talents who can hit the ground running in terms of putting their Anaplan skills to work as part of a CoE or other roles using Anaplan. The flip side of University Connect is Business Connect where we will connect companies to our members for recruiting - or, they can bring projects/challenges for students to tackle. We can also work with you to bring your 'go to' partner universities into the program. I will be onsite at CPX - please stop by the booth and chat, or we can schedule a time to meet if you'd like to learn more. Best, Heather
