Converting from Native Versions to Generic Versions

I have a requirement to convert an existing model from Native Versions to Generic Versions in 5 weeks.

I'm finding it quite a challenge to dissect this and go about it in an organized way. I tried to start from the endpoints with lines that are not referenced by anything and work my way back, and even with that am finding it a challenge to place in my generic versions lists and remove the native versions without toasting the model due to upstream references.

The generic versions list will not have top level.

So, my question is: Has anyone been through this exercise before and know of an organized/orderly methodology to make this conversion?

Question..what do the generic versions offer over the native versions in this model? I understand the differences, but what are they hoping to gain by this change?

Rob! Hello,

That is a great question. The rationale for this direction is to have a versions list that would not always be an 'all or nothing' when applied to a module or line item on account of subsets. It is being pursued as a way of achieving better use of space when it comes to versions.

Then it sounds like having some core flat module on a version list but keep the native versioning for doing the calculations.

Then you don't have to worry about calculation changes flowing through the version history.

do you have the model GUID? Without knowing more about the model, I really can't answer if this is a worthwhile "project", but on the surface I am not sure the juice is worth the squeeze. If it were me, I would focus more on the optimization of the model and reducing the over dimensionalized line items vs switching to "custom" versions.
