🚀 Built a Wordle Game in Anaplan!
I wanted to experiment with how far I could take Anaplan beyond traditional planning use cases, so I built a fully functional Wordle-style game in Anaplan 🎯
The game currently has more than 2,000 different games, with each game having its own word. The Context Selector determines which game you're playing.
Some of the Anaplan concepts I used:
🔹 Dynamic Cell Access (DCA)
- Players cannot enter a new attempt before submitting the previous one.
- The game cannot be refreshed/reset until the player either wins or completes all 6 attempts.
- Inputs are controlled based on the current game state.
🔹 Conditional Formatting
- The guesses are formatted using Wordle-style logic:
🟢 Correct letter + correct position
🟡 Correct letter + incorrect position
⚪ Letter not present
🔹 Word Validation
- A guess can only be submitted if it is a valid 5-letter word.
- Invalid inputs are prevented from being considered as an attempt.
🔹 Alphabet Tracker
- The alphabet grid at the bottom tracks letters that have already been tried, similar to the original Wordle experience.
🔹 Attempt Status
- Each attempt has a dedicated Status column that dynamically provides feedback based on the submitted word — from "You got something" and "You're almost there" to "You're Genius Bro" when the word is correct.
🔹 Overall Game Status
- An overall status/message bar below the game grid dynamically updates based on the game state, showing messages such as "Keep Trying You'll Get there" or "Congratulations you got it".
🔹 Game Selector
- A sequence list of up to 2,000 games allows players to switch between different Wordle challenges, each with its own target word.
It was a fun exercise in exploring Anaplan UX, model logic, DCA, conditional formatting and user interaction in a completely different use case.
Would love to hear from the Anaplan community:
What other non-traditional applications have you built in Anaplan? 😄
