I want to be able to calculate the average values of 3 years prior and show them as a value for this year
So, if I am forecasting for May 2023, the value will be the average of values for May2020, may 2021 and may 2022.

I have given a workaround for averaging past 2years, you can extend this to any number of past years you have, and adjust the formula accordingly. Please note that current period in my model is Mar'23, which means all months until Feb'23 are considered past months.
I am using LAG function to fetch data of same month for past 2years, and doing a simple average:
