How to Efficiently Manage Version Control in Anaplan Models?

Hi everyone

I've been working with Anaplan for a few months now and am getting more comfortable with its functionalities. However, I’m facing some challenges with version control in our Anaplan models. We often have to make updates and changes, and ensuring that these are managed efficiently without disrupting our live data is becoming tricky.

Could anyone share best practices or strategies on how to handle version control effectively in Anaplan? Specifically, I'm interested in:

  1. Methods for creating and managing different versions of models.
  2. Tips for tracking changes and maintaining a clear history of updates.
  3. Strategies for testing new changes before applying them to the live model.
  4. Any tools or features within Anaplan that can aid in version control.

I also check this: https://community.anaplan.com/discussion/91017/version-settings-as-production-datarails I’ve done some research and understand the basics, but I’m looking for more detailed, experience-based insights from those who have navigated similar challenges. Your expertise and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards

    Hi Rihana,

It seems like we need clarification about your question.

In Anaplan, when we talk about "versions", we usually mean specific setups like Actual Version, Forecast Version, Budget Version, Q1 Budget Version, 2024 Budget Version, and so on. This includes activities like creating a new version, locking a version, creating a switchover date for a version, and bulk copying from one version to another version, fake/alternative versions list.

It looks like you are asking about something else, maybe related to Application Lifecycle Management (ALM). ALM in Anaplan is about managing different model types: development, testing, and production models, and includes things like making changes to a model, creating revision tags, syncing models, model history, and reverting to a history ID.

Can you clarify if you were asking about version management in the traditional Anaplan sense, or if you were using the term similar to "version" in Google documents?
