YTD / YTG Functions

Hi All,

Looking for a bit of guidance here, around YTD / YTG functionality, do people tend to use the elements that are shown in the model calendar, or do they do in a different manner and if so how? I would appreciate any guidance and pro's / cons that people could advise.

For reference, we don't use native versions, rather have a list named Forecast versions and we may want the YTD to flex based on what the last actual month is each forecast version

  • Hello,
It depends on the use case.

The native YTD/YTG works fine with the current period selection.

However, a custom YTD/YTG would be needed if you wanted similar comparisons for previous years.

Consider an example where we're currently in Apr 24 so Jan-Mar24 being YTD & Apr-Dec being YTG. This result would be achievable with the native YTD/YTG settings as well.

However, if you'd want a similar comparison YoY, so YTD24 vs YTD23 you'd need a sum of Jan-Mar23 as well which is then achievable using a custom list for YTD/YTG.

  • Hi,

Thank you for your response - we would potentially want to be able to do the comparison YoY but also would be useful to also have the YTD / YTG flex based on forecast version, as these have different switchover dates, which from my understanding would also need to be a custom list.

Yes, you can then create a module where you have the start/end months defined/calculated for each version across YTD/YTG & use that to calculate your YTDs for different periods.
