  • On the asset management projects I've worked on; the asset management use case itself is always prevalent. Tracking values at both cost and FMV, fees collected (asset management fees, and development/construction and property management fees if it's a real estate project), asset acquisition and disposals on an annual basis (mostly just future forecasts of capital allocation projections), capital stack per asset (GP/LP capital, any debt), cash flow projections and related IRR on an asset and fund basis, what funds each asset belongs too, legal names of the asset, etc. Wall Street Oasis is a great place to learn about the IB/Asset Management industries.

  • Hi Bala,

Do you have a prebuilt model or are you building a new model?

    Hi Bala,

Congrats on becoming a certified Model Builder! Even if you have got the fundamentals of the Anaplan model architecture, there is still a lot to learn in Anaplan before you build a model.

Here are some key areas for further learning:

    1.Application Lifecycle Management (ALM):

    • Development, test, and production models
    • Revision tags, syncronizing the models
    • Creating new models, deleting, archiving, and deploying models.

    2. Data:

    • Communicate clearly with IT to get data in the right format
    • Efficiently bring data into the data hub, transform it, and use it in your investment banking model.
    • Data flow, integration, and automation

Data management can make or break an Anaplan project.

    • 3. Model Building: There are functions and formulas you may not have learned yet. Some of them are:
    • Time functions (e.g., OFFSET, POST),
    • User filters
    • Text manipulation

    4. User Access Management:

    • User roles
    • Security
    • Setting selective access
    • Dynamic Cell Access (DCA).

    5. Add-ins:

You may also want to explore Excel Add-in and Power BI Add-in if you plan to work with Anaplan data in other tools like Excel or Power BI.

In a typical project, there's usually a Solution Architect (SA) with at least a year of experience and a Model Builder (MB). The SA designs the model, and the MB builds it. If you’ve got an SA on your team, you can help build with your new skills, sharpen them, and learn even more along the way.

I will create another post on how to start building an investment banking model.

    I hope this helps.

    @Baalakrishnaa

Concur with @seymatas1 - congratulations on your certifications. If you want to get really good at investment banking use cases I would recommend, in addition to Seyma's ideas, you thoroughly study the Anaplan financial functions (filter on classic & Financial functions on the right). Polaris has a very limited number of functions so be careful which planning engine you are using. Also IRR and NPV works a little different than you might expect. You'll need some practice using those. I recommend you check your results against Excel to test your accuracy.

Lastly, get comfortable with Line Item Subsets, LIS. This is a feature that lets you turn line items into a list. Very powerful for FP&A use cases.
