Hello Anaplanners!

I’m happy to share my ‘How I Built It’ tutorial today; a fun football game/tool. Football Survivor is a competition where people select one team per week. If that team wins, they move on. If that team loses, they are knocked out. Importantly, you can only select a particular team once per season. So, if you choose all the best teams early on, you’ll be left with weaker options as the season progresses.

Let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

Key features:

  • Visualization/season planning
  • Elo-based win % calculation

  • Ryan, this was great. I've been playing Survivor pools for a number of years now. May have to move my calcs into Anaplan. Another consideration/complexity to think about would be how many people you are playing against. And for late in the season, which teams they have left to pick. Upsets are so common that staying away from a very popular pick in a given week gives you the possibility of surviving when a large % of the field loses.

    Thanks @BrentOrr, great suggestions.

I particularly like the idea of including an input for the popularity of picks. The model I put together is helpful to see the Win Odds (Elo Win %) and Future Value (dark greens in later weeks) for teams. Layering in an input of public pick % to the formulas would be a cool feature for next year.
