Designed behaviour of updates in "Start Date and Time(UTC)" of a process.

What is the designed behaviour of updates in "Start Date and Time(UTC)" of a process i.e. whether it is updated at the

beginning of the first action of the process

 or

at the end of the last action of the process?

    Thanks for the reply @seymatas1.

Could you please confirm if the answer will be same, if we ran the processes via an Integration tools like OIC i.e. Oracle Integration Cloud?

  • Hi Gaurav,

I haven't used OIC, so I'm not sure. You can try running an action and noting the timestamp. You could also use a UTC timestamp page to convert UTC formats.

  • @Gaurav_EPM : whatever option you use to launch a process, the behavior should be the same as @seymatas1 mentioned: it traces the timestamp when the process started. You can follow all the actions in the process that will trace the start timestamp of every action.

  • @alexpavel and @seymatas1 .. A very Happy new year to both of you! Thanks for your answers.

Please help me to confirm if the behaviour of Anaplan application in the updation of "Start Date and Time(UTC)" is same as listed below.

"Start Date and Time(UTC)" for a process is the time when the first action of the process started but it updated after the end of the last action of the Process.

For ex. Lets say a process P is having Actions A1 and A2 and is completed on Monday at 10:30 AM. On coming Tuesday, the process started at 10 AM and the action A1 completes at 10:10 AM and action A2 completes at 10:35 AM.
Query 1: Just before the completion of A2 on Tuesday(lets say at 10:34 AM Tuesday), whether the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for the process P is 10:30 AM of Monday?
Query 2: After completion of A2 whether the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for the process P is 10:35 AM of Tuesday or it will be updated just after start of action A1?

Please help here with your observations.

  • @GauravHCL : I try to understand your questions, but I cannot understand what you are trying to check. You are describing when the processes are completed, however, the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" trace only when the process or an action is started the last time when they were launched :). This column does not trace when the actions finish.

If actions A1 and A2 are not launched in another way (in other processes or by themselves), the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for process P should have the same value as action A1.

Another observation: if it was launched the process P, the column "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for action A2 is updated only if action A1 has finished without errors. If, for any reason, action A1 fails all the other actions from the process are not launched anymore. It's the same behavior when the process is launched manually and finishes with a red light.

    Hope it helps,

    Alex

Let me make it clear, from your statement only

The "Start Date and Time(UTC)" trace only when the process or an action is started the last time when they were launched.
Our observation: "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for a process updated only after completion of the last action (A2) of the process P. Till the running time of A1 and A2, the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for that process is the time, when it was completed/run last time.

This column does not trace when the actions finish.

Our Observation: This column only updated when the last action of the process completed.

However, this observation we are seeing only from last 2 months, we believe before November, 2024 the "Start Date and Time(UTC)" for a process is updated as soon as first action of the process Starts".

    Please comment on this!

  • @GauravHCL : Interesting observations.

What I found was that the behavior was as expected.

I'm unsure when the 'Start Date and Time(UTC)' column gets updated to become visible, but I did notice that the Process P column is updated with the first action of the process (Action A1).

If this column for Process P is updated after Action A2 is completed, I'm unclear on its relevance, since the value in the column still reflects the start time of Action A1.

During the launch of an action, the model becomes blocked. When a process is launched, only a limited number of operations can be done until the process is finished and I usually do not consider them relevant.

Most of the time, the model shows is "busy", even sometimes, between actions, the users can read/see some information on the model.

    Hope it helps

Please find my comment on your observations.

Yes, this was correct for the clients for which I have worked earlier. However, this is not happening with current client's worskspace.

If this column for Process P is updatedafterAction A2 is completed, I'm unclear on its relevance, since the value in the column still reflects the start time of Action A1.
Same ask we have with Anaplan Product Support Team. They are confirming us, this is the behaviour of Anaplan from Start of the Application/Tool.

Hope, it is true or may I wrong in my observation earlier.

    Cheers!
