Summing Across Different Levels of a Hierarchy

Hello all,

 

The model we currently use at my company currently does not have many hierarchical lists, however I am trying to sum a line item in a module with a hierarchical list as a dimension and it is doubling the result of the sum by adding up the parent's total as well as all of the children that belong to that parent. What is the best way to eliminate the parent from being included in the sum?

    Taylor,

     

    I don't know how exactly your hierarchy is set up, but the best way I have found to avoid over summing parents is changing the summary in blue print view. Formula allows you to take the parent total instead needing to sum the lower levels. Otherwise, you can use none for summary. This allows all the parents to have 0 instead of adding up everything below it. Please let me know if these help.
