Are you saying files should not be an import source?

Are you saying modules (without saved views) should be used as an import source?

I always thought saved views or files are the 2 types of acceptable import sources, where as default values and lists are not best practice import sources.

Files and saved views should be the source, not lists or modules as filters can only be saved using saved views.
