Allow Line Items to Be Both Calculated and Input

In as much detail as possible, describe the problem or experience related to your idea. Please provide the context of what you were trying to do and include specific examples or workarounds:

A very simple example:

Three Line Items: Retail Sales $ , Retail Sales Units , Avg Selling Price/Unit

Those three naturally interact with each other, e.g. Sales $ = Sales Units * Avg Sell Price , Sales Units = Sales $ / Avg Sell Price , and Avg Sell Price = Sales $ / Sales Units. Some business channels may focus on Sales Units & Avg Prices, others may focus on Sales $, etc. So some users will input $ & price and expect Units to calc. Others will input Units & price and expect $ to calc. My understanding is that this cannot be done bc a rule is enforced that the line item must either be input OR calculated. This has really restricted our formula designs.

How often is this impacting your users?

Users cannot interact with line items and build their forecasts in the way that they require. It also forces workflows that are not efficient.

Who is this impacting? (ex. model builders, solution architects, partners, admins, integration experts, business/end users, executive-level business users)

Model builders, solution arch, end users

What would your ideal solution be? How would it add value to your current experience?

The expectation of modern planning tools is that they enable greater flexibility and more robust intelligence than simple Excel worksheets. By allowing greater line item interactions as shown in this example, it would open up more robust solutioning options and provide for more efficient process.

Please include any images to help illustrate your experience.
