Is it Possible to "Select Levels to Show" that are not Shown in the Default View?

I have a hierarchy like this:
- L1
- L2

I would like to just show the L2s in the default view, but I would also like to give my users the ability to show just the L1s if they want. But right now, it looks like the only way for users to have this ability is if I show the L1s in the default view as well.

Is there a way to accomplish this?

    Hi

    I think there is a way to use boolean ITEMs like these to change the show/hide behavior depending on whether it is a 'detail item' or a 'Parent'.
