Overview

A HAR (HTTP Archive) file captures network requests and responses, helping diagnose connectivity and performance issues. Follow the steps below to generate a HAR file in Google Chrome.

Procedure

1. Open an Incognito Window

  • Close all existing Incognito tabs and windows in Google Chrome.
  • Open a new Incognito window by pressing Ctrl + Shift + N (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + N (Mac).

2. Open Developer Tools

  • Click the More actions menu () in the upper-right corner of Chrome.
  • Navigate to More tools > Developer Tools.
  • Select the Network tab.

3. Start Network Recording

  • Ensure that Chrome is recording network activity:
    • If the record button 🔴 (red circle) is grayed out, click it to start recording.
  • Check Preserve log to ensure logs are not cleared when navigating between pages.
  • Click Clear network log (🚫) to remove any existing logs.

4. Reproduce the Issue

  • Go to the webpage where the issue occurred.
  • Perform the necessary steps to replicate the issue.

5. Export the HAR File

  • Once the issue is reproduced, click the Export HAR icon (⬇️).
  • Save the file in .har format on your computer.
