Unable to open two models that totals 110Gb in a 130Gb workspace at same time

Has anyone experienced this? I have two models of similar size. Both models sum up to 110Gb (57Gb and 53Gb respectively). Models are responsive if you only have one of them open. But the moment you attempt to have them open at the same time all models in the workspace become non responsive. Eventually you get the timeout error below.

What I am aware of so far is that when both models are open, it is maxing out capacity (according to Anaplan support). This is rather unusual given that the workspace is 130Gb and I am only loading 110Gb. Theoretically I should have 20Gb available.

I have raised a support ticket but it just keeps changing hands and going around circles. Last response I got from support was … have you tried opening both models at the same time and wait til they have both loaded … uhhmm ok.

It is likely the amount of Text that are in each of the models. Remember from the NMX, text is estimated at 8 bytes, but in reality each cell of text is 48 + (2 * the number of characters) so "ABC" would actually be 54 bytes. Due to to this, these models opened at the same time are most likely going above the 200 GB (130 GB is the model limit with 70 GB of extra headroom for calculation).

It is usually due to

insufficient active memory, exceeding the total capacity of the workspace, or temporary system locks A 130 GB workspace refers to the maximum cumulative size of all active models in that space.

You may have other large models open in the same workspace, consuming all available RAM.
Large Imports/Processes: If a model is already running a heavy import, export, or large calculation, it can lock up the workspace, preventing other models from opening.

@rob_marshall would this same 200 GB limit apply for one model with lot of text? In essence meaning that one could create a model that couldn't be opened as it would be over 200 GB?

@pyrypeura yes, it doesn’t matter the number of models, if they or it uses more than the 200 GB hard limit, they will not open.
