Filter with a page selector after a selection has been applied (NUX)

What I'm trying to do: 

I have a module with a list that's the child level of a hierarchy in the rows. I'd like to apply a selection so I see just the child level list, not many annoying rows of parent items -- in this case, I have almost as many parents as children). Unfortunately, Anaplan won't allow me to enable row hierarchy filtering (so that the page selector pops up) because a selection has been applied to the module. NUX, filtering, page selectors

 

Why this would help:

Don't have to choose between giving users control over page selection filtering and the look and feel of the grid

Generally less frustration with Anaplan quirks (if there is a reason for this behavior, it is not one that seems immediately logical)
