NUX Line Item 'Style' Options

Currently the Anaplan NUX lacks options for line item 'Style' that are in the classic UI. Short-term need: As a minimum viable product customers are requesting these same options in the NUX. Examples include, bolding, italics, underlining, indentation etc. Full feature: In addition to the classic options, a full spectrum of formatting is requested including line item grouping with expand and collapse. See example below in the image for customer expectations.

Problem: Many of our customers with income statement/P&L use cases expect line item 'formatting'/style options and won't adopt the NUX until delivered. This type of functionality is seen as a prerequisite and facilitates quick reading and analysis of data.

  • @CWPorter You can format your line items in the NUX, just like in the old one, you can adapt the style.

  • @willemvdb Yes some of the 'style' options will come through (such as indentation, italics) but they are not as robust as the classic and some key aspects of this are still missing. For example the ability to underline or double underline or to bold the line items. These are key to a lot of P&L use cases. I'll try to adjust the request make this clear.

  • True! A longer P&L becomes impossible to read without the visual highlight. I started to bridge it by creating empty line item items with "Non-Printing Characters" to separate specific sections in a P&L (but that's probably not best practise 😅) .

  • Good suggestion @PhilippErkinger - just be sure to set the line items to no data to save some space!

The problem statement listed in the original post is correct - I have had many clients request more flexible line item formatting options. It's amazing how far a little formatting can go with end users!

  • Agreed, the style options don't show up as well in the New UX as the classic!

  • I will second the request and will 'tack on' an additional feature that is inline with the topic: add the ability to insert 'breaks' in reporting modules to provide visual breaks between statement groupings. This is a constant feature request from FP&A users. The longstanding work around still requires using line item formatted as 'No Data', however, you have to use at least 1 unique single character to name the line item 'break'.

  • Agreed, our users are requesting to see the bold formatting of parent items show up in the NUX similar to how it was in classic.

  • Adding the option of editing font colour (or other styling options) for a line item would be of great value. P&L sometimes gets very long and needs visual highlights. I use conditional formatting to colour the cells, however, when there are many different points to highlight it can get extremely colourful (not something end user might like). In this case experimenting with font colours or different styling options can save the day.

  • 100 Kudos votes is really quite high for the idea exchange - wondering how much support will be needed to move this to Consideration \ Roadmap?

  • All, formatting of line items summaries is now available in Management Reporting on the Presentation Table giving you flexibility to format your reports for senior stakeholders. We are planning on enhancing this further with row and column level formatting.

Longer term we plan on adding these enhanced formatting capabilities around theming and summary styles to Boards and Worksheets as well.

  • Hi,

This is a very pertinent requirement in almost every use-case one can think of.

Is there any update on when this will come through?

    Thanks

  • Themes and summary styling is now available on all grids for Boards and Worksheets.

  • The grid formatting is getting better and better, but I still think the ability to boldly single/double underline the entire row should be in the new ux. This is such a classic accounting/finance item that I'm not sure people will ever stop asking for it!

  • Generally speaking, it would be great to have NUX Boards and Worksheet formatting options that are at feature parity with what we have in Management reporting. In particular, being able to apply formats to specific LISS and/or list items. We use this a good bit in boards with financial details where we're looking at variance reporting. Frequently we'll have some LISS items that are whole numbers (e.g. Revenue) but then others that are %'s (e.g. % Growth), and are then using module line items to pull in "Forecast", "Actuals", and calculate Variances across custom versions in a classical variance reporting view. Currently, on boards, all of the "revenue growth rates" in this example would have to show up as decimals rather than %'s because the entire line item (e.g. "Current Forecast") can only have one number format applied. I believe it was mentioned above in early 2022 that NUX board and worksheet formatting was going to be enhanced…curious if this is still on the roadmap / whether there is an intent to get to parity with management reporting.

Also wanted to quickly second the bold / double-underline formatting need above…feels like low hanging fruit…
