Hi Community,
I'm facing a challenge with data clearing during imports in Anaplan, especially when the incoming data only represents a subset of the target module.
As many of you know, by default, Anaplan imports only replace the cells represented by the incoming data. This means that any existing data not included in the import file remains untouched, which can lead to incorrect results if those values should have been cleared.
I understand that Anaplan provides clearing options in the import definition (like Clear all items, Clear target before import, etc.), but in the module I'm working on, I don’t see the option to clear all target items prior to load.
Here’s what I’m trying to achieve:
- Clear all data in modules like P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow before loading new data. All are line items and not lists.
- Avoid manual steps or maintaining duplicate clearing modules. [WHICH IS WHAT I HAVE IMPLEMENTED NOW]
- Use import actions.
- Ensure that non-represented cells are also cleared, not just overwritten.
Questions:
- Why might the Clear target before import option not be available in some modules?
- What’s the best practice to ensure a full data wipe before load, especially when the incoming data is partial?
- Are there smart ways to structure imports or saved views to enforce this behavior?
Any insights, workarounds, or examples would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
