Generating Failure Dump Step - on Successful Imports

I've few actions in our Supply model which when run takes some time on the "generating failure dump" step at the end of the action even though the import is a full success

without warning or errors.

This is just a few seconds when run for a single action, however we have a process with 120 actions, and most of these actions are taking a good few seconds in the generating failure dump step at the end of the each action (it's when the progress bar of the action is at 100% after which the generating failure dump is displayed which is taking sometime)

But these actions' outcome is a full success with no warnings,ignored or failures, which makes me wonder why does the generating the failure dump takes few seconds on a full success import

and the warnings page is clean of any errors,warnings

The above screenshot shows the run of one of the actions. It takes some seconds on the generating failure dump step of the action run even though the import is a full success with no failures and warnings., See the import run details below

No errors/failures. in the import

Yet the generating failure dump takes some time, its not a problem for a single action, but we have a process with 120 actions, most of which are taking time in the failure dump step, The combined effect is evident in the prolonged run time of the process. could we possibly address this?.

Holy cow, 120 actions, that is a lot! Regarding your question, in the picture you have above, you are only looking at one of the actions, not all of the actions. I would look in the Expand all items to see all 120 actions to see if there are warnings.

This zip file has 28 screen snips of the run information of all the 120 actions contained in the MRP Process. As you could see all the actions of the process is a full success with no single occurrence of failure or warnings, aligning with the best practices,

yet, I was monitoring the process run, to find that during most part of the process runtime, "generating Failure dump" was displayed in the progress bar, however the final summary as shown above has no failures/warning.

What could be the reason for this.

I'm pretty convinced, that one of the major contributing factors for the prolonged runtime is because of the generating failure dump step at end of each action.

I am betting it is a step within the Process function (not yours, but ours) that is checking to see if there is a failure dump and if there is one, attaches it. One thing you might consider is breaking up the process so you don't have 120 actions in a single process.

Hi Rob,

we already have 7 individual processes making up this full 120-step MRP process, which we may use to debug and troubleshoot if needed.

we ran this 7-step split process as per your recommendation and compared the runtimes, surprisingly it took 6 mins more than the full process. The combined process took 40 mins and the 7-step process took 46 mins

I'm aware having a 120 action process doesn't align with the best practices but I'm interested to understand if there is any rationale for constituent smaller sequential processes to complete quicker than 1 larger process all containing the same action.

Even in this 7-part run i could see most of the time the progress bar was displaying "generating failure dump" for action with no failures. I've seen actions processes generating failure dump before, but if I remember it right it was only for processes with partial successes and failures.

Is this failure dump step at the end of each action (even full success ones),an extra validation step added recently by anaplan as part of the process function? because I don't recall successful actions running this step before.

To give some context, the MRP process in supply is one of the most important and crucial process, which is run for a minimum twice a day, or even 5-6 times a day by users if needed to recalculate the supply plan. so we're trying to optimise its run time.

Any suggestions or Inputs Appreciated.

That generating failure dump has always been there. When you ran the 7 part series vs the 1 larger process, were the two loads equal as in importing the same amount of data?
