Hello Anaplan Community,

I have a product hierarchy with 5 levels .
For a client requirement, I need to transform this product hierarchy into a combined list , to be able to select different levels of the hierarchy in a line item (drop down list)

For this, I tried to create different saved views where I have for example :

Saved View 1 : Level 1 code (parent) , Level 2 code , level 2 name

Saved View 2 : Level 2 code (parent), Level 3 code, level 3 name

.. etc

This works when my combined list is not numbered. However, when it is numbered , I get this error: Invalid parent

I need my combined list to be numbered beacuse I have similar names .

I only map on the codes, so it is not coming from this.

Do you please know how I can fix this ?

Hey @Pankhuri
To share the solution with you, since you tried and It would be better for you to know this as well.
The combined list hierarchy works fine when the list is "non-numbered ". But, when the list is "numbered" there are restrictions as " A numbered list item cannot have a parent from the same numbered list".
So in summary, If you want to build combined list hierarchy. The list should be non-numbered.

Hi @Ritaj99 - To create Hierarchy at 5 level, you may need to have parent child relationship

Step 1: Create 5 Levels of list which is equal to 5 lists and it should be a numbered list and prod list if the changes are there at list items in production.

Step 2. For each level there should be a parent assigned, for an example : Product = P

P5 will have parent P4

P4 will have parent P3

P3 will have parent P2

P2 will have parent P1

P1 at t top level.

This way you will have an individual list at each level and you can provide them for selection on a lineitem.

I already did this. But I don't understand why it says invalid parent when I try to import for example :
In a saved view where I have : P5 with its parent P4 . When I import into my combination list . It says "Invalid Parent"
I don't get this when I use non numbered combination list ..

Hi @Ritaj99 - I hope you have added the parent hierarchy and please check the parent code you're mapping is the same code which you have added in the parent list. If more issues, please share the screenshot.

Sorry, I didn't explain my issue clearly (here are some screenshots attached)
Actually , this normal hierarchy is fine . I have no issue with it . I have my Lists of different hierarchies from level 1 to level 5.
On the other hand. What I want to do is to create a combination list with combined hierarchies and here where the issue occurs .
I created many saved views : For instance, a saved view with Level 2 and its parent level 1 .
And I want to import this into my combination list with level 1 as the parent , and level 2 as the child
When I set my comination list as a "non-numbered list" . It works
However, as my Combination list must be a numbered. When I import, I get this error "invalid parent".

Hi @Ritaj99 - What is the combination list? From your description I understand it is a normal L2 L3 relation ship, is there anything specific you're doing with it?

From your below screenshot what I understand is that L2 Code CLD is not available in L2 list, that is why it is saying it as invalid. if the data was available it would have passed. Could you please check parent "CLD" is available at L2 level?

I mean by combination list , a single combined hierarchy in one list (instead of many separated lists in normal hierarchies)

The code CLD exists in my combination list. Because the first thing I did was creating the parents in this list

Then if you need all the level in one list, then you don't need parent, you can import all the products with first occurrence in a master list (numbered list), with a top level. I hope this helps.

@Pankhuri Nope, this is not the reason behind this. I should be able to keep the hierarchy structure (this is why I used this combination list)

Hi @Ritaj99 - from the screenshot you've shared I don't see the data at any level, first start importing data from top to bottom it should work correctly as well as at L5 it is a parent child hierarchy it can not be a master list.

@Pankhuri I'm populating the lists starting from the top .

What do you mean by data ? the data I want to import is just the code and display name for my list . And they are already in the saved view !

@Ritaj99 - as per my understanding I've stated all the facts. By data I meant adding items at l1, l2, l3 , l4 and then l5. Where as in your ss, there is no data (adding your shared screenshot below). I think you need to connect with someone near you to help you with that, cause I'm sure once the data is there it will reflect correctly as per the need. Or you can take guidance from L1 course, it will help you achieve your goal. Thank you!! :)

I don't think that you get the issue correctly as you may not be familiar with Combination lists.
The issue is not coming from here (as it works when list is non numbered)
