How do I determine why Anaplan API login fails intermittently ?

My interface uses basic authentication to log in to Anaplan. The login process has been failing intermittently for about a week. How can I identify the root cause of these Anaplan API login failures?

* Username and password are correct.
* The account is not locked or expired.
