Hello,
Is there a quick way, in Anaplan XL to divide all the results by 1000 without creating a measure for every row or every column?
You can create custom calculations that can be applied to a specific member, and that would apply across all rows, for example. For example, I applied the custom calculation to my line item Revenue (drag and drop that member into the expression and then just add "/ 1000.
You will then need to add this custom calculation to your grid.
This is the final result (showing Revenue in thousands) - note you can drag the custom calculation to be directly under Revenue and format it like any other member - I just chose to put it at the bottom of the grid.
However, I am curious why you would not want to use Excel's native functionality to display values in thousands? If you added custom formatting, you could apply it to all members at once (for example, all line items).
Apply the custom format (#,##0,) - the comma at the end converts the number to thousands.
If you only want this to apply to a specific grid you can name your grid in the Grid Properties and then apply that in the formatting tab as seen here. OR if you don't apply a specific grid name it will apply to all grids in the workbook by default (other than those that have the apply formatting unchecked in the properties).
The Excel Approach is more scalable and sustainable since you don't have to update the calculations when new members are added - but the drawback is that it is a bit of a blunt instrument and would apply to all line items equally throughout the workbook unless managed in the formatting tab.
Hello @ElizabethS ,
Thank you for taking the time to answer.
Before reaching out to the community, I did create, juste like you did, a custom calculation. But it only applies to one line item (I have the same layout as in your example with time in columns, line items as rows and versions in my filter), thus I would need to create as many custom calculations for every line items that I have (>30). That is why I am asking if there is a quicker way.
As for the reason for not wanting to use the conditionnal formating, it is because the recipient of the report will just paste the values in his tool that will be 1000 times too high if I use the conditionnal formating (I also tested the solution before my first message).
Once again, thank you for trying to help me.
Regards
Do you have a dimension such as versions that is in your filters section? Generally there are far fewer versions than list or line items. You could create the custom calcualtions against your versions. And if they are in your filters section - the benefit is that the user could then toggle between actuals and actuals in thousands for example. There is no way to apply the calculations to all members at once other than the native Excel formatting, which sounds like it won't work for your use case, unfortunately.
I do have a version dimension in my filter section.
Yes, it does have fewer members than the number of line items that I need in my report … but there are 26 of them for now (expecting to grow throughout the year).
So I guess there is no solution via Anaplan XL to my problem for now.
Thank you again for your time @ElizabethS
You could add this as a request to the idea exchange; maybe other users have a similar request.
