How to filter a module line item based on another modules page selector

i have two modules

1: dimensions B (subClass), C (version), D (D = Entity)

2: dimensions, A Policy No, (hierarchy where B is parent to A) , C

module 2. includes a line item formatted to D - Entity

module 2 on a UX will Sync to page selectors B and C from module A but i need to filter mod 2 also where line item Entity is the selected Page : Entity from Mod A.

is this possible and how can i achieve.

FYI, adding dim D to module 2 isnt an option

Hello, Try below approach:

Apply this Boolean as a filter in the UX grid:
Open Module 2 card
Filters → Add filter
Select Entity Filter?
Filter condition = TRUE
Now when the user changes the Entity page selector in Module A, Module 2 will show only records where the line item Entity matches that selected Entity.
Alternative (better model design): If Entity is a true dimension of Module 2, add Entity dimension to Module 2 instead of keeping it as a line item. Then Page Selector filtering works natively.
So:
Entity as line item → use Boolean filter
Entity as dimension → use page selector directly

Create a Filter Module
1. To drive a filter based on a user's page selection, you need to capture what the user is looking at.
2. Create a Filter Module dimensioned only by the dimensions of Module 1: SubClass (B), Version (C), and Entity (D).
3. Add a line item called Selected Entity Filter? and format it as a Boolean (Checkbox).
4. Write the following formula for this line item:
  1. TRUE
Create a filter line item in Module 2.
1. Open Module 2 (Dimensions: Policy No (A), Version (C)).
2. Add a new line item called Filter by Entity? and format it as a Boolean.
3. Assuming your existing Entity-formatted line item in Module 2 is named Entity Dropdown, enter the following formula:
  1. Filter Module.Selected Entity Filter?[LOOKUP: PARENT(ITEM(A))( Create a line item and refer that line item) , LOOKUP: Entity Dropdown]
Apply the Filter to the UX Car
1. Edit your UX Page and open the Card Configuration for the Grid/Chart displaying Module 2.
2. Go to the Filter tab in the configuration panel.
3. Add a filter rule based on the line item you just created: Filter by Entity?.
4. Set the condition to: Filter by Entity? = TRUE.
5. Ensure your Page Selectors for SubClass (B), Version (C), and Entity (D) are published at the top of the page and set to Sync (which is default behavior).

I think ive followed all your steps, but my policies are not filtering based on Entity selected in mod A Page selector ?

I have added a new Filter module (same dimensions as my mod 1, and linked it to the UX via a KPI card. but the dimensionality doesn't appear as part of the ux page selectors?

mod A dimension, Entity does though. all is sync on page selection correctly, i think.. filter on mod 2 set in UX is set to new filter Entity in mod 2.

but i still get all policies, ticked boolean TRUE for both Entities, Ent.A and Ent.B?

i must be missing a step, sorry,,, further assistance very much appreciated

in mod 2. dimensions, Policy number (child of Subclass-the top dimension of Mod A. ) the line item formatted to 'Entity' is a line item called Policy Entity' not Entity dropdown. which is just a property of the policy.

i used this in my formula lookup

New Filter module : 'FI 03. UX Filter

Line Item : SubClass (parent of Policy),

the word 'dropdown' is confusing me as the dimension Entity is only a dimension of mod A and is part of UX page selectors, and in the new filter module, module F (filter) published to UX on KPI card. (where the multiple dimensions, same as mod A, dont appear as page selectors ??? but al sync'd to page

In your Mod 2 filter line item (Boolean formatted), use this structure:{Filter Line Item} = 'FI 03. UX Filter : IRM'.{Selected Entity Filter}[LOOKUP: SubClass, LOOKUP: 'Policy Entity',... ]
IMP Step: Replace LOOKUP: '#L5 Entity' with LOOKUP: 'Policy Entity'. You must map the filter's Entity dimension to the actual line-item attribute inside Mod 2 that tells Anaplan which entity owns that policy.

Good morning, thank you for the response.

yes, i have done this,

but the possible problem i see, is in mod 2 there are policies with both Entities. Ent.A and Ent.b

if i look up either in the filter module, they both come back with TRUE not just the page selected Entity, because the filter module ( dimensions same as mod 1, has formula TRUE, so a lookup finds both TRUE's ? i cant see how it should only get the page selected item?

yes i agree this would be a best practice option but in this scenario i cant

and i cant get a new filter module dimentioned by mod A including Entity, to work as required?

Hi, since your mod 2 includes dim D as a line item, you can create a select-dim-D user selection line item in an INPUT Filtering Module and post it as a field on the UX page.

When the user selects a list item from dim D, you will show only the TRUE ones on your UX page by applying a boolean filter to check if the user selection = dim D in Module 2 or not.
