How to Perform a SAML Trace | Anaplan
Overview
SAML tracing helps diagnose authentication issues by capturing the SAML assertion details exchanged during the login process. Follow the steps below to perform a SAML trace in your browser and share the necessary details with Anaplan Support.
Procedure
1. Install the SAML Tracer Plug-in
Use the links below to download and install the SAML tracer extension for your browser:
- Mozilla Firefox: SAML Tracer Add-on
- Google Chrome: SAML Tracer Extension
2. Open the SAML Tracer Tool
- Once installed, click the SAML Tracer icon in the browser's upper-right extension menu.
- This opens the SAML Tracer dialog box.
3. Attempt to Sign In to Anaplan
- Navigate to Anaplan Login.
- Sign in using your SSO login credentials.
- The SAML Tracer tool will record and display authentication details.
4. Identify the Relevant SAML Request
- After the sign-in attempt fails, locate the entries in the SAML Tracer window.
- Look for the request with SAML assertions, usually marked with a SAML tag.
5. Extract and Share the SAML Trace
- Click on the SAML-tagged request in the tracer window.
- Navigate to the SAML section and copy the contents.
- Paste the copied content into a Notepad file.
- Mask any sensitive credentials before sharing.
- Provide the notepad file to your Anaplan Support representative for further analysis.
Additional Notes
- Ensure your browser is up to date before installing the SAML tracer extension.
- If login issues persist, you may also try clearing your browser cache and cookies before performing another SAML trace.
