Give us the ability make Line Item names dynamic similar to display names for numbered lists

I would like to request the ability to use formula-driven display names for Line Items, similar to how display names work for numbered lists. This feature would allow the display names to automatically update based on the model’s current period settings.

For example, if I have a line item named "FY25 Budget," it would automatically adjust according to the model's time settings, eliminating manual renaming.

i understand you can update line item names by codes with an action in blueprint but i would like to be able drive line item names by dimension within the module as well with formula like item(). Asking users to click a button every time is not good ux. We also have to revert the changes when asked to display prior year data

I also understand you can accomplish something similar with line item subset filtering, but it only works on numbers and I need to be able update the names of text/list line items.

  • Hi,

Model Builders can still automate this process of updating line item names by using a simple import action. Just like the data is imported into grid view, we can also import in the blueprint view which would mean updating the line item names based on the line item code property.

Hope this helps in your yearly maintenance activity.

For example, I have line items that are named FY24 and FY25. I would like the names to change dynamically based on the version of the module. Asking users to click a button every time is not good ux. We also have to revert the changes when asked to display prior year data.

  • Agree something like this would be beneficial, although I wager the implementation from a DB/integration point of view would be difficult as the name of lines are used in model to model and internal model actions as well as calculations themselves.

I've linked a similar idea below which is more around creating an alias for a line vs renaming the line itself (which may also support your use case). In this case, the line item doesn't change, but you apply an alias/alt name for users to see.
