Snowflake Writeback is now available as a new addition to our integration capabilities. As the first of several planned writeback connectors, this feature is part of the Pipelines functionality in Anaplan Data Orchestrator. It allows you to move transformed and validated data from Anaplan directly into your Snowflake environment, supporting downstream analytics, reporting, and enterprise-wide data synchronization.
Prerequisites and setup
Setting up the data export is a straightforward process. Before starting, you will need an active Snowflake account, a secure connection configured in Anaplan using key-pair authentication, the necessary user permissions granted in Snowflake, and a target table ready to receive your data. Once these elements are in place, you can begin your export.
Configuration and management
The pipeline-driven process allows you to configure a data export efficiently, avoiding complex setups or lengthy implementations. The interface makes it easy to manage and modify existing pipelines over time, whether you need to update connection parameters, adjust field mappings, or change your data write preferences.
Exporting data to Snowflake
Snowflake Writeback enables the direct export of data from your Anaplan Data Orchestrator (ADO) datasets into Snowflake tables. The entire data flow is visualized within the pipeline designer for transparency and control. Built-in error handling provides clear, specific error messages to help you quickly identify and resolve any setup or connection issues, minimizing downtime for your data flows.
Data loading options
Snowflake Writeback provides three write options to accommodate different integration requirements:
- Full replace: Overwrites the target table with each run, ensuring the destination alwa contains the most recent complete dataset.
- Append: Adds all records from the source dataset to the existing data in the target Snowflake table.
- Upsert (incremental): Updates existing records and inserts new ones based on a specified key. This method is more efficient for large datasets where only a portion of the data changes frequently.
Security
The connection between Anaplan and Snowflake is established using key-pair authentication. This method uses a 2048-bit RSA private key to ensure that all data transfers are authenticated and encrypted. By using this industry-standard protocol, the connector maintains the security and integrity of your data throughout the transfer process.
Automated data flows
You can automate Snowflake Writeback pipelines by including them in scheduled workflows. This allows you to run exports on a recurring basis or trigger them manually as part of a broader business process. Automation helps ensure that downstream systems are consistently updated with current data from Anaplan without requiring manual intervention.
Audit history
Every pipeline includes an audit trail that records the history of each run. You can view the status, timestamps, and the last update for every transfer. This record-keeping supports data governance and simplifies troubleshooting by providing a clear log of the data's movement from Anaplan to Snowflake.
Documentation and support
To support your use of these new capabilities, we have clear, step-by-step documentation available on Anapedia. You’ll find everything you need to guide you from building your first data pipelines to more advanced configurations of the Snowflake Writeback, ensuring you can master this new functionality with confidence.
Why this matters?
If your organization relies on Snowflake for analytics, business intelligence, or data warehousing, this new writeback capability is a game-changer. It breaks down the silos between planning and analysis, allowing you to feed your expertly curated Anaplan data directly into your downstream processes. Your teams can now ensure that strategic insights, forecasts, and reports are always based on the most accurate and up-to-date information, bridging the gap between your planning platform and your broader data ecosystem. This empowers you to drive more informed decisions and unlock new value from your data landscape.
