We’ve added multi-factor authentication (MFA) to basic authentication to further protect against automated and malicious login attempts. Customers with this feature turned on and using basic authentication will be required to authenticate with an authenticator application in addition to their password to access their Anaplan account. Supported authenticators include Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Auth0 Guardian, and Twilio Authy.
Read the frequently asked questions/ answers below to find out more.
What is changing with the Anaplan login process?
We are introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all users who log in using basic authentication (an email and password). Going forward, you will need to use a supported authenticator app to verify your identity when you log in.
Why is Anaplan making this change?
Your security is our top priority. Adding MFA is an industry-standard practice that adds a crucial layer of protection against automated and malicious login attempts. It helps ensure that your account and data remain safe.
Does this impact me if my company uses Single Sign-On (SSO)?
No, this change applies only to users who sign in to Anaplan using Basic Authentication (email and password). Users who authenticate through Single Sign-On (SSO) are not impacted by this change.
Which authenticator apps can I use?
We support several popular authenticator applications, including:
- Auth0 Guardian (offers convenient push notifications)
- Google Authenticator (uses verification codes)
- Microsoft Authenticator (uses verification codes)
- Twilio Authy (uses verification codes)
Are there plans to add other authentication methods, like SMS or email codes?
We specifically chose authenticator apps because they provide the best balance of strong security and usability. While we are always monitoring the security landscape, we have no immediate plans to add other authentication factors at this time.
When will MFA become available?
MFA is available to be turned on now (since June 2026). Tenant Security Admins can turn this feature on for their tenant(s).
Note that this feature will be honored if a user has this enabled on their DEFAULT TENANT. If a Visitor is using Basic Authentication on a tenant that has MFA enabled and their default tenant does not have MFA turned on, they will not see the MFA prompt. After the mandatory feature is turned on, this flow will not apply as all users logging in through basic authentication will need to use MFA.
When will MFA be required?
MFA will become mandatory for all users using basic authentication on January 27, 2027.
Can I enable MFA before it becomes mandatory?
Yes. Customers may turn on MFA through their Administration settings. For instructions on enabling this feature, see: Enable multi-factor authentication for login
What authenticator applications are supported?
Supported authenticator applications include:
- Google Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Auth0 Guardian
- Twilio Authy
What is the difference between Auth0 Guardian and the other authenticator apps?
Auth0 Guardian supports push notifications, allowing you to approve sign-in requests directly from your mobile device.
Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, and Twilio Authy generate time-based verification codes that you enter during login.
What happens the first time I log in after MFA is enabled?
The first time you log in after MFA is enabled:
- Enter your Anaplan username and password.
- You will be prompted to set up MFA.
- Scan the QR code displayed on screen using a supported authenticator app.
- Verify the setup using the code or approval request generated by the app.
- Complete sign-in.
Once setup is complete, MFA will be associated with your account.
What happens after MFA has been configured?
After setup, each login will require:
- Your username and password.
- Verification through your authenticator application.
Depending on the authenticator used, you will either:
- Approve a push notification, or
- Enter a verification code generated by the app.
Do I need a mobile device to use MFA?
Yes. MFA requires access to a supported authenticator application, which is typically installed on a mobile device.
Will MFA be required every time I log in?
In most cases, yes. Users should expect to complete MFA verification whenever prompted during the login process.
Does this impact integrations, APIs, or automated processes?
This enhancement is designed for users authenticating through Basic Authentication. Customers should review any integrations or automated processes that currently rely on Basic Authentication and consult Anaplan documentation for guidance on supported authentication methods.

What if I get a new phone or lose access to my authenticator app?
If you lose access to the device used for MFA, contact your Anaplan administrator or support team for assistance regaining access to your account.
Additional recovery procedures will be documented before general availability.
What if I cannot scan the QR code?
Ensure that:
- Your authenticator application is installed and updated.
- Your device camera has permission to scan QR codes.
- You are using one of the supported authenticator applications.
If you continue to experience issues, contact your administrator or Anaplan Support.
Can I use more than one authenticator app?
At launch, MFA setup is tied to the authenticator application used during enrollment. Refer to the product documentation for any updates regarding support for multiple devices or authenticator applications.
What if I do not enable MFA before it becomes mandatory?
Once MFA becomes mandatory for Basic Authentication users, you will be required to complete MFA enrollment before accessing your Anaplan account.
Does MFA replace my password?
No. MFA supplements your password by adding an additional verification step. Users will continue to sign in with their username and password.
