Cal Poly Visits Anaplan Headquarters
The Anaplan University Connect program hosted a group of top undergraduate students from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) Orfalea College of Business at the Anaplan headquarters in San Francisco for an incredibly interactive exploration of Anaplan and Connected Planning, including career opportunities and a Q&A session, featuring Chief Planning Officer, Simon Tucker.
Concepts that are core to an education at Cal Poly include learning by doing and putting theory into practice. Students brought their A-game to the session by demonstrating their knowledge of Anaplan and planning through creative questions and active participation in insightful discussions during their visit—despite a 3:30 a.m. campus departure earlier that day!
The session objectives aligned with Cal Poly’s learning approach and the goals of University Connect:
- Build awareness of Anaplan as THE company driving the Connected Planning topic.
- Introduce the Anaplan platform.
- Inspire students to consider Anaplan as their employer of choice upon graduation.
- Deepen our relationship with the university.
The Anaplan team also brought their A-game, showing the #AnaplanLOVE by demonstrating our culture and values, and together, created moments that mattered for the Cal Poly students.
I personally had the opportunity to whiteboard the Connected Planning / Anaplan story for the students. Cal Poly alum and Business Operations Manager, Byron Mikowicz, introduced the Anaplan platform, demonstrated a use case, and shared the Anaplan-on-Anaplan success story. Pete Lawson, Global Talent Leader, encouraged students to consider careers at Anaplan. Then, Cal Poly alum and Enterprise Account Executive, Nico Molino; Customer Experience Associate, Connie Ng; and Senior Business Partner, Trevor Shubert, joined Pete for the career panel and shared their perspective on everything from how to prepare for a career while still in school, to what it takes to be successful at Anaplan. The Q&A session led by Chief Planning Officer, Simon Tucker, was also a huge success.
The feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive, including comments such as, “Best company tour we’ve been on,” “Anaplan made us feel so welcome,” and “[The] agenda was top notch!” Another attendee commented that it was an awesome afternoon—and we agree!

Can my company connect with University Connect members like Cal Poly?
The flip side of University Connect is Business Connect. Business Connect acts as a matchmaker between company and university. It gives companies the opportunity to bring projects and challenges to the classroom, allows them to develop deeper relationships with member universities and their students, and explore early talent recruiting.
