About Puneeth
I am currently working as a Solution Architect for a supply chain domain planning model and I have worked as a Solution Architect and as a model builder for FP&A, Territory & Quota planning models.
I was surprised when I first heard about the name Anaplan, which was described as an analysis and planning tool. My colleague and as well as my friend introduced Anaplan to me. As soon as I learned about it, I started exploring it, and since then, I've enjoyed working in Anaplan.
We asked Puneeth a few questions to get to know him.
Please share an Anaplan success story you’re proud of.
I’m always thankful for my first project that I worked on in Anaplan regarding territory and quota planning with a multinational networking client because the project was tough and involved complex functionalities. There were only two of us, including my lead, and we had to take on individual responsibilities due to the project's complexity. We were initially not sure whether Anaplan could handle such huge data silos, and it was a struggle in the beginning to convince our client to transfer from their comfortable, huge Excel files into Anaplan. Eventually, after so much effort put in, we were able to do all that in Anaplan with a successful go-live that helped the client's business process in a greater way. It was a great learning experience and complete satisfaction to me. I learned most of the capabilities that Anaplan could provide at that time in 2019.
Please share something you can teach about Anaplan — any tips and tricks you'd like to highlight?
In the beginning, I struggled to come to a solution and was taking so much time to provide a complete solution in Anaplan. I would say knowing the full capabilities of Anaplan is — first and foremost — a skill that you can have as a successful Anaplanner.
Having said that… Keep track of Anaplan Community problem statements and solutions that other Community members are providing. One problem statement can be resolved in various ways, and to determine the best solution, I would recommend documenting the problem statement, thinking about solutions, and getting to know the advantages/disadvantages of each solution. Documenting could be flow charts, solutioned in Excel, or flow of calculations. It is always better when a problem statement is seen in flow rather than seeing it in written word, which helps us to ask the right question.
I have learned a lot from the Community and from my peers. I used to go to my peers and ask them about the new case studies, and tried to solve them, which helped me in a great way. On that note, I would say the more you get hands-on in the Anaplan model, the more you get better at solving complex problems.
What do you enjoy about the Anaplan Community?
As I mentioned earlier, I'm a great fan of the Community forums (Anaplan platform discussions). I have gotten to know so many other functionalities, capabilities, and problem statements which I never got in my projects that I worked on. This exposure has made me successful in delivering my projects in an optimized way. I was so proud of myself when I solved a problem statement in the Anaplan platform discussion forum for the first time and it encouraged me to do more!
What's the most memorable trip or vacation you've ever taken, and why was it so special?
For me, if I had to pick a special and memorable trip, it would be my first wedding anniversary trip to Yosemite National Park, California. My wife and I have always preferred trekking or hiking over a fancy dinner or partying. Yosemite National Park is famous for its giant sequoia trees, elegant waterfalls, and marvelous granite cliffs.
To top it all off, we witnessed the Yosemite Horsetail Firefall, a natural light show that occurs in mid to late February when the setting sun aligns with the waterfall. Its light refracts through the water, creating the illusion of fire flowing down the cliff.
